Rio Ngumoha has taken another significant step in his rapid rise after his historic goal for Liverpool was shortlisted for the Premier League Goal of the Month for April 2026.

The teenager etched his name into the club’s history books on April 11, producing a moment of individual brilliance in a 2-0 victory over Fulham at Anfield.

At just 17 years and 225 days, Ngumoha became Liverpool’s youngest-ever goalscorer at the famous ground, surpassing a long-standing record held by Raheem Sterling.

His landmark goal arrived in the 36th minute and set the tone for Liverpool’s performance. Collecting possession on the edge of the area, the England youth international of Nigerian descent showed composure beyond his years, bending a precise effort into the bottom corner to leave the goalkeeper with no chance.

It was a strike that combined technique, confidence and timing, underlining why he is regarded as one of the most promising young talents emerging at the club.

Ngumoha’s effort now stands alongside a strong list of contenders for April’s award, reflecting the high quality of goals scored across the league.

The shortlist includes Mathias Jensen of Brentford, James Justin of Leeds United, Kaoru Mitoma of Brighton and Hove Albion, Xavi Simons of Tottenham Hotspur, Rayan Cherki of Manchester City, teammate Andy Robertson, and Eberechi Eze of Arsenal.

There is also a notable narrative surrounding the award, with recent winners highlighting a growing Nigerian influence. Dominic Solanke claimed the prize in February, before William Osula followed up with success in March.

Voting for April’s accolade remains open until midday BST on Monday, May 4, with the winner scheduled to be announced on Friday, May 8.
