Official: Mainoo signs new long-term Man United deal until 2031

Kobbie Mainoo has underlined his long-term importance at Manchester United by officially signing a new five-year contract that secures his future at Old Trafford until 2031 and reflects his rapid rise into a central role within the squad.

The agreement, confirmed by the club, represents a major vote of confidence in the 21-year-old midfielder, whose performances have transformed him from a promising academy graduate into one of United’s most influential young players.

The deal also brings a significant financial upgrade, with his wages rising to around £150,000 per week, a substantial jump from his previous terms.

Mainoo’s development has not followed a straightforward path. Earlier in the season, during a period of managerial uncertainty, he explored the possibility of a temporary move in search of more consistent minutes.

However, that request was rejected by the club, and circumstances soon shifted in his favour as he forced his way back into the starting lineup under interim boss Michael Carrick.

Once reinstated, Mainoo quickly re-established himself as a key figure in midfield, starting 13 of United’s last 14 matches and delivering performances that have strengthened internal belief in his long-term role.

His earlier contract, which ran until 2027 and was worth approximately £25,000 a week, had already been earmarked for review by United’s hierarchy, with negotiations gathering pace over the past year and accelerating in January.

The midfielder’s resurgence has also reopened the door to international recognition. After an 18-month absence from the senior setup, he has returned to the England squad picture and featured in recent friendlies, putting him in contention for selection ahead of the upcoming global tournament.

With a World Cup looming, Mainoo’s profile is expected to rise further, and his form has already prompted expectations that United will strengthen around him in midfield.

The departure of Casemiro on a free transfer is anticipated to accelerate plans for a new defensive midfielder to complement his technical and composure-driven style.
