Koffi Kouao confirms FC Metz departure after four seasons

Koffi Kouao has confirmed he will leave FC Metz when his contract expires at the end of June, bringing an end to his four-year spell at the club after making more than 100 appearances across Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.

The Ivorian defender, who joined Metz from Portuguese side Vizela in 2022, has been one of the club’s most consistent performers during a season that has otherwise delivered mixed results.

In total, he played 113 matches for the French side, establishing himself as a regular presence in the squad.

His departure, which had been widely expected, was announced personally on social media, where Kouao reflected on his time at the club and thanked supporters.

He wrote: ” It’s been four seasons of ups and downs, joys and sorrows. But I’ve always tried to give my all on the pitch for this club, and to live up to expectations off it. Three more games to finish this season strong. But it’s been an honor .”

The 26-year-old, affectionately known by some fans as “Don Koff,” has also become a popular figure within the dressing room. Beyond his performances on the pitch, he has been recognised for his commitment and presence in the squad during a period of transition for Metz.

Kouao will miss the upcoming home fixture against Monaco at Stade Saint-Symphorien due to suspension.

However, he has already turned his attention to a planned farewell in Metz’s final home match of the season against Lorient on May 10.

He described the occasion as “The last Dance at Saint-Symphorien” in a series of messages shared online, inviting supporters to join him for what will be his final appearance in front of the home crowd.

The timing of his exit comes as Metz’s season reaches its conclusion, with uncertainty still surrounding the club’s final position.

However, Kouao’s announcement confirms that he will not be part of their plans moving forward, regardless of the outcome.

As the campaign draws to a close, attention now turns to how Metz will replace a player who has been a regular feature in their defence over several seasons, while supporters prepare to say farewell to one of their longest-serving recent figures.
