Man United step up interest in Rafael Leao after fresh scouting mission

Manchester United have intensified their pursuit of Rafael Leao after dispatching scouts to closely monitor the forward during AC Milan’s stalemate with Juventus on Sunday.

The goalless draw offered United’s recruitment team another opportunity to assess one of Europe’s most dynamic attackers, with Leao firmly on the club’s radar ahead of a potentially pivotal summer transfer window.

The Portuguese international of Angolan descent remains a key figure for Milan, but uncertainty surrounding his long-term future has alerted several top clubs across the continent.

With less than two years remaining on his current deal, Milan are understood to be open to negotiations should a suitable offer arrive.

Reports in Italy suggest that a proposal in the region of €60 million would be sufficient to bring the Serie A side to the table, a valuation that could prove attractive for a United side looking to bolster their attacking options.

Leao’s output this season has been steady rather than spectacular, yet still underlines his importance to Milan’s attacking structure.

The 26-year-old has registered nine goals and three assists in 26 league appearances, combining pace and technical ability to consistently stretch opposition defences.

Sunday’s encounter with Juventus, while lacking in goals, highlighted Milan’s resilience as they maintained their position in the upper reaches of the table.

For United, however, the fixture served a different purpose, offering further insight into a player they view as capable of adding a new dimension to their frontline.
