Mohamed Salah to miss rest of season after hamstring tear, Egypt official confirms
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will not feature again this season after suffering a hamstring tear, according to Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan.
Salah picked up the injury during Liverpool’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield over the weekend. The 33-year-old winger was forced off in the 60th minute, acknowledging the home crowd as he left the pitch.
While Liverpool have yet to issue an official medical update, Hassan stated the injury rules Salah out for the remainder of the campaign.
“He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment,” Hassan told Reuters.
Salah had already announced he would depart the reigning Premier League champions at the end of the season, bringing an end to a nine-year spell filled with trophies and record-breaking performances.
His final appearance for the club is expected to come in words rather than action, with a planned farewell message to supporters after the season finale against Brentford.
Liverpool still have four league matches remaining: away trips to Manchester United and Aston Villa, and home fixtures against Chelsea and Brentford.
One of the club’s all-time greats, Salah is Liverpool’s third-highest scorer in history and has registered 12 goals and nine assists across all competitions this season.
Despite the setback, Hassan expressed confidence that the forward will recover in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, where Egypt are drawn in Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran.
Salah is determined to return to full fitness ahead of the tournament, mindful of previous injury heartbreak when a shoulder problem in the 2018 Champions League final disrupted his build-up to the World Cup in Russia.
