Egyptian football enthusiasts, particularly those of Al Ahly, were caught off guard as officials from the Red Castle reconsidered their pursuit of Mohamed Abu Jabal, the goalkeeper for National Bank of Egypt and the Egyptian national team.
This comes despite the deal not being officially announced.
Al Ahly had been actively engaged in negotiations to secure a new goalkeeper during the winter transfer window, prompted by Mohamed El-Shennawy’s injury while playing for the Egyptian national team.
El-Shennawy is expected to be sidelined for three months.
Reports surfaced in the past hours suggesting that Al Ahly’s decision to back away from Abu Jabal was influenced by recommendations from El-Shennawy and Mahmoud Kahraba.
The duo advised the club’s management against signing Abu Jabal, expressing concerns about potential negative impacts on the team’s dressing room dynamics.
The news of Abu Jabal reportedly signing with Al Ahly had stirred significant controversy in Egyptian football circles.
The player had purportedly inked the deal just hours before Egypt faced the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Africa Cup of Nations, a match that ended in Egypt’s elimination through a penalty shootout.
Zamalek Stuns Ahly Regarding Mohamed Bassam
Insiders reveal that the board of directors at Zamalek is contemplating securing a new goalkeeper in the upcoming period after successfully resolving the official registration suspension issue.
This suspension had prevented the club from making new signings in recent times.
Until now, Zamalek has not reached an agreement on renewing the contracts of the current goalkeeping duo, Mohamed Awad and Mohamed Sobhi, whose contracts with the White Castle conclude at the end of the season.
This situation has prompted some members of the board to consider pursuing Mohamed Bassam.
A source within Zamalek confirmed that Mohamed Bassam, the goalkeeper for Ceramica Cleopatra, and a potential candidate for a move to Al Ahly, is one of the options on the table to reinforce the goalkeeping position in the first football team at the White Castle.
Zamalek will make renewed attempts to negotiate contract renewals with Mohamed Awad and Mohamed Sobhi in the coming days.
In case the negotiations falter, the club will explore the possibility of signing Mohamed Bassam and determine his stance on joining the team during the upcoming summer transfer window.
It is worth noting that Al Ahly attempted to secure Mohamed Bassam after El-Shennawy’s injury.
Still, Ceramica Cleopatra’s management insisted on obtaining the services of Moustafa Shobier to finalize the deal, a condition rejected by the Red Castle’s administration.
