2026 World Cup: We will do our best to ensure Ghana perform, says incoming assistant coach Roger De Sa
Incoming Black Stars assistant coach Roger De Sa has expressed confidence that Ghana’s technical team will work tirelessly to make the nation proud at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The South African tactician is set to join Carlos Queiroz on the Black Stars’ bench following the dismissal of Otto Addo in March, which came after consecutive defeats to Austria and Germany.
De Sa and Queiroz, who have previously worked together with the national teams of Iran and Egypt, will reunite to lead Ghana into the tournament set to be staged across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking to South African outlet KickOff, De Sa struck a measured tone about expectations, stressing commitment over guarantees.
“There is no mandate to win this and that,” he said. “The job is to go to the World Cup and fly the Ghanaian flag as high as possible.”
The new technical team is expected to be officially unveiled in Accra on Thursday, April 23, after which they will immediately begin preparations with the squad.
Ghana are scheduled to step up their build-up with friendly matches against Mexico and Wales on June 2 as part of their final preparations.
At the tournament, the Black Stars will compete in Group L, opening their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
The appointment comes as Ghana seeks stability and renewed direction on the global stage, with hopes of improving on early exits in the 2014 and 2022 World Cups.
