Horoya AC seal 22nd Guinean league title after Wakriya victory
Horoya Athletic Club have once again underlined their domestic dominance by securing the Guinean Ligue 1 Guicopres title following a 2-1 victory over Wakriya AC on the 25th matchday.
The result, achieved at the Yorokoguiyah sports complex, confirmed the Matam-based side as champions for a second consecutive season and extended their long-standing supremacy in Guinean football.
Horoya moved to 56 points with the win, a total that proved decisive in the title race. Their closest challengers, Hafia AC, were unable to keep the contest alive after being held to a goalless draw against RCC Kamsar, leaving them mathematically unable to catch the leaders.
With the league now decided, Horoya AC have secured their 22nd national championship, further strengthening their status as the most successful club in the country.
It is also their ninth title since 2014, highlighting a period of sustained success over the past decade.
The title win reflects the consistency of the club in recent seasons, with Horoya maintaining their position at the top of Guinean football despite competition from traditional rivals.
Their ability to deliver results across the campaign once again proved decisive in the final stages of the season.
Attention will now turn to the next challenge for head coach Nouhoum Diané and his squad, who will be aiming to carry their domestic form onto the continental stage.
The Malian coach is expected to lead Horoya into the CAF Champions League with hopes of making an impact beyond Guinea.
For now, however, the focus remains on celebrating another league triumph, as Horoya AC continue to set the standard in Guinean football.
