Franck Kessié delivers again as Al-Ahli’s advance in AFC Champions League
Franck Kessié continues to cement his status as a key player for Al-Ahli Jeddah after another crucial contribution in the AFC Champions League.
The Ivorian midfielder once again rose to the occasion during Al-Ahli’s quarter-final clash against Johor Darul Ta’zim at Al-Inma Stadium in Jeddah.
With his side trailing since the 19th minute, Kessié stepped up at a critical moment, scoring the equaliser in first-half stoppage time.
Rising highest to meet a corner kick, he powered a header into the net to restore parity and revive his team’s hopes.
The goal proved vital for Al-Ahli, who were already dealing with adversity after Ali Majrashi was sent off in the 37th minute, leaving the team a man down for much of the contest.
Kessié’s latest strike takes his tally to three goals in the current edition of the tournament, adding to the brace he scored against Al-Gharafa during the group stage.
Across the last two editions, the midfielder has now netted five goals in the competition, underlining his consistent impact on the continental stage.
His influence was equally significant in the previous campaign, which Al-Ahli went on to win. Kessié scored both the opening goal of their tournament run against Persepolis and the decisive strike in the final against Kawasaki Frontale.
With a knack for delivering in defining moments, Kessié continues to establish himself as one of Al-Ahli’s most reliable performers when it matters most.
