Members of the executive office of the Tunisian Football Federation have found themselves perplexed by FIFA’s approval to proceed with the scheduled elections while complying with the law.
The federation’s executive office is set to convene on Wednesday to determine the election date and open the door for nominations to form a new executive committee for the term 2024-2028.
Surprisingly, FIFA representatives engaged in a Zoom meeting with members of the independent elections committee and the national appeals committee to inquire about their readiness for the March election date and the challenges they might encounter.
FIFA has been informed that the elections can be conducted on schedule, and the verification of candidate lists and all necessary procedures has been confirmed.
The Tunisian Football Federation’s executive session will subsequently finalize the nomination submission timeline and set the date for the election session.
FIFA and CAF will closely monitor these proceedings.
It is worth noting that the former president of the federation, Wadi’e Al-Jary’, has put forth his candidacy for a third term (2012-2016/2016-2020/2020-2024).
In the last election session, he secured a total of 336 votes, receiving endorsements from 139 out of 142 clubs.
The Club Sportif Sfaxien, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, and Hilal Sportive Chebba declined to support Al-Jary’s candidacy.
The general assembly is called by the federation president and is directed to associations thirty days before its convening.
It includes the mandatory agenda and is responsible for determining the general policy of the federation, overseeing its implementation, approving internal regulations and general provisions.
Whether the executive office will decide to hold a regular general session before the election session to amend some laws remains uncertain.
President of the interim federation, Wassaf Jalel, has previously announced that he has no intention of running for the presidency.
Some members are not enthusiastic about continuing in the executive office for a new term.
There is anticipation surrounding a list that will include surprises for the sports community, with the potential inclusion of Abdelmajid Gobantini.
