Beninese-German defender Ahouannou back in action for Eintracht Frankfurt
Eintracht Frankfurt defender Yannis Ahouannou has made a successful return to action after a four-month absence, marking an important step in the development of the highly rated 17-year-old.
The Beninese-German centre-back had not featured since December, when he last played in a UEFA Youth League fixture against FC Barcelona.
His return last weekend was closely watched by coaching staff, who opted to ease him back into action during an U19 clash against SGV Freiberg.
Ahouannou was introduced at the start of the second half and completed the full 45 minutes, making a steady impression in defence.
His presence helped stabilise Frankfurt’s back line as they went on to secure a 3-1 victory on the 8th matchday of the second phase of the U19 championship.
The match marked a positive step in his recovery and reintegration into competitive football after a significant spell on the sidelines. Coaches will be encouraged by both his fitness and his ability to adapt quickly after a long lay-off.
Before his injury setback, Ahouannou had already built a strong presence within Frankfurt’s youth setup. This season, he has made 17 appearances across all competitions, establishing himself as a regular figure in defence.
His performances in Europe have also drawn attention, particularly in the UEFA Youth League, where he has featured five times.
Averaging 59 minutes per match in the competition, he has shown consistency against some of the continent’s strongest youth sides.
Beyond his club progress, attention is also growing around his international future. The defender is eligible to represent both Germany and Benin, and while German football authorities are monitoring his development, he also remains an option for the Benin national team, known as the Cheetahs.
His potential availability for either nation has already generated interest among supporters, particularly in Benin, where fans are closely following his rise through the ranks in Germany.
For now, Ahouannou’s focus remains on rebuilding momentum at club level after his injury absence. His return to competitive action represents a key milestone in what is seen as a promising early career.
