Angola appoint Aliou Cissé as new head coach on four-year deal
Senegalese tactician Aliou Cissé has been appointed as the new head coach of the Angola national team after ending his spell with Libya.
Cisse, who masterminded Senegal’s first AFCON title in 2021 has penned a four-year deal and is expected to lead the Palancas Negras until 2030.
His arrival comes shortly after parting ways with Libya on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, bringing an end to a short but eventful spell in charge of the Knights of the Mediterranean.
Despite having a contract that was meant to run until 2027, his exit was accelerated amid reported financial issues, including delays in salary payments.
Cissé arrived in Angola on Thursday and has put pen to paper to become the new head coach of the Palancas Negras.
The position has been vacant since February following the departure of former coach Patrice Beaumelle, leaving Angola in search of a new leader to steer the team through its next competitive cycle. Cissé’s arrival is seen as a major statement of intent, given his experience and success at international level.
Cissé, who previously guided Senegal to major achievements, is widely respected across the continent for his tactical discipline and leadership. His appointment is expected to bring stability and a clear footballing identity to a team eager to compete at the highest level.
Before his exit from Libya, Cissé expressed gratitude to the players, staff, and supporters, describing his time in charge as an enriching experience despite the challenges faced. His farewell message highlighted both pride in the progress made and belief in the future of the team.
Now, with a new challenge awaiting him in Angola, Cissé is set to begin a four-year project aimed at elevating the Panthers on the continental stage and beyond.
