Morocco emerges as potential host for La Liga matches
Morocco has been identified as a potential venue for La Liga matches, with the newly built stadium in Casablanca leading discussions as the prime candidate.
Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish league, praised the immense popularity of Spanish football in Morocco and said that hosting matches there is both logical and feasible.
In an interview with the Maghreb Arab Press Agency, Tebas highlighted the strong following for La Liga among Moroccan fans, noting that travel logistics would pose minimal challenges.
“Given the number of fans who follow the Spanish league in Morocco, I think playing there will be easy, especially since the logistical restrictions related to travel remain minimal,” Tebas said. He added, “We can consider holding a match of the Spanish league in the new Casablanca stadium… why not?”
Tebas also emphasised the importance of the memorandum of understanding signed between La Liga and the Moroccan National Professional Football League, aimed at fostering coordination and strengthening cooperation to benefit football development in both countries.
With growing enthusiasm for Spanish football in Morocco and state-of-the-art infrastructure now available, the prospect of La Liga matches in the kingdom appears increasingly realistic.
