Kenya wants to improve their squad before AFCON 2027

Kenya, along with Uganda and Tanzania, will co-host the Africa Cup of Nations next year and intends to strengthen its squad with players from Germany, among others, ahead of the tournament.

According to kicker, Kenya’s national coach, Benni McCarthy, plans to pursue Cologne player Linton Maina in the coming months.

Maina, 26, whose father is Kenyan, played exclusively for German youth national teams from the U16 to the U20 level.

McCarthy now wants to explore the possibility of the Cologne attacking star playing for Kenya and plans to travel to Germany soon.

During his trip, McCarthy intends to speak with Maina and try to convince him to represent his father’s country of birth.

Furthermore, McCarthy wants to recruit two more players from Germany. The young attacking player Sadiki Chemwor, who currently plays for Bayern Munich’s youth teams and will be under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt from July, has come into focus, as has striker Andre Gitau from Mainz 05’s reserve team.
