Senegal FA reports major financial boost after international break
The Senegalese Football Federation has reported a significant financial boost following the March international break, with revenues exceeding 2 billion CFA francs after a series of high-profile friendly matches.
The earnings, equivalent to more than 3 million euros, underline the commercial success of the fixtures played during the period, as Senegal continued to make an impact both on and off the pitch.
Federation president Abdoulaye Fall welcomed the outcome, pointing to strong ticket sales as a key driver behind the figures.
“We’re going to take stock. My colleagues are working on it, but we can already say it’s a financial success. Ticket sales alone have been very positive, exceeding our expectations . ” he said.
The matches, including encounters against Peru national football team and Gambia national football team, were staged at prominent venues such as the Stade de France and the Stade Maître Abdoulaye Wade. These fixtures attracted strong attendance and contributed significantly to the overall revenue generated.
Fall also emphasised the broader economic benefits linked to organising international matches, highlighting their importance beyond the immediate sporting context. “Every time we organize matches, we bring hundreds of millions into our coffers…” he added.
On the field, Senegal matched the financial success with positive results, securing two victories during the break.
The performances reinforced the team’s growing momentum as preparations continue ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite the overall success, the federation acknowledged that there were organisational shortcomings during the fixtures.
Fall admitted that certain aspects require improvement and indicated that steps are already being taken to address them.
“We need to correct certain things… There have been some more malfunctions… Starting with the next match, the system will work,” he said, signalling a commitment to refining operations in future events.
The international window has therefore provided Senegal with both financial rewards and valuable lessons, as the federation looks to build on its recent progress while addressing areas of concern.
