Oumar Diakité ends goal drought

Ivorian forward Oumar Diakité returned to the scoresheet in timely fashion on Saturday, ending a four-match goal drought in the Belgian league with a composed finish during the play-offs.

The striker found the back of the net for Cercle Brugge KSV in their clash against SV Zulte Waregem, marking his first goal since February 7, when he last scored against Sporting Charleroi.

In a tightly contested play-off encounter, Diakité played a decisive role after his side were pegged back to a 1-1 scoreline. Showing composure under pressure, the Ivorian stepped up in the 69th minute to convert a penalty, restoring Cercle Brugge’s lead at 2-1 and putting his team in a strong position to secure all three points.

The goal not only ended his personal drought but also highlighted his importance in crucial moments, reinforcing his role as a reliable attacking option for his team.

However, Cercle Brugge were ultimately unable to see out the victory. Despite Diakité’s strike, they conceded a late equaliser, allowing Zulte Waregem to salvage a 2-2 draw and share the points in an entertaining encounter.

While the result may have been frustrating for the team, Diakité’s goal will be a positive takeaway as he looks to regain his scoring rhythm. The strike brings his tally to five goals in 21 league appearances this season, underlining his steady contribution in front of goal.

As the play-offs continue, Cercle Brugge will be hoping Diakité’s return to scoring form can spark a more consistent run, with the Ivorian forward eager to build on this moment and play a decisive role in the remainder of the campaign.
