Hossam Hassan backs Marmoush La Liga move

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan believes Omar Marmoush has earned the right to target a future move to La Liga, as Barcelona reportedly keep a close eye on the Manchester City forward ahead of the summer window.

Speaking before Egypt’s friendly against Spain, Hassan praised the 27-year-old’s rise and insisted his game is well suited to Spanish football.

“The whole world is watching him,” Hassan said. “He possesses immense potential, great speed, and excellent technique. Marmoush is improving year after year and, sooner or later, he could be playing in La Liga – he deserves it.”

Marmoush joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025 for around 59 million pounds, arriving as an urgent attacking reinforcement in a demanding season for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Competition for places at the Etihad has been fierce, meaning he has not always been a guaranteed starter in his first full campaign, although his form has picked up since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

Barcelona are viewed as a possible next step as they look to strengthen their attack, while Tottenham also showed interest in the winter market. With a contract at City running until June 2029, any move would likely require a significant transfer fee, underlining the value the Premier League champions place on the Egyptian international.
