Jason Cundy slams Liverpool over Mohamed Salah contract chaos

Former defender Jason Cundy has hit out at Liverpool’s handling of Mohamed Salah’s departure, branding the club’s contract decisions “an absolute mess” after the forward confirmed he will leave at the end of the season.

Salah, 33, is set to walk away on a free transfer after nine years at Anfield, during which he won two Premier League titles, the Champions League and multiple domestic trophies.

Cundy believes Liverpool prioritised the wrong player when they handed Salah a huge new deal worth around £400,000 per week. “They gave Mo Salah a two-year contract on £400,000-a-week, they gave the contract to the wrong player! They should have given that money to Trent, in his prime,” he argued, lamenting that both stars are now leaving for nothing.

“So he’s walked on a free, they’ve both walked on a free,” Cundy continued, accusing the club of backing the wrong project. “Now all of a sudden, you find they’ve gone on a free… wow! I mean, that is a mess… that is an absolute mess.”

His comments mirror growing frustration among sections of the fanbase over how Liverpool have allowed two key assets to run down their deals.
