Wydad Casablanca have officially appointed French coach Patrice Carteron as their new head coach, following the departure of Mohamed Benhachem.

Carteron, 55, brings a wealth of experience in African football, having managed several top clubs across the continent.

His previous stints include leading Al Ahly in 2018 and Zamalek in 2019, both in Egypt, as well as Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca in 2019. Carteron also had a successful period at DR Congo’s TP Mazembe from 2013 to 2015, where he established himself as a tactician capable of navigating the pressures of African club competitions.

The Frenchman is expected to steer Wydad Casablanca through the remainder of the season, aiming to stabilize the team and challenge for domestic and continental honors. His appointment is seen as a strategic move by the club to inject experienced leadership following a turbulent period under Benhachem, who was relieved of his duties just hours before Carteron’s confirmation.

Known for his disciplined approach and tactical acumen, Carteron has earned a reputation for quickly adapting to African football cultures while fostering competitive squads. Fans and analysts alike are optimistic that his return to Moroccan football—after his previous stint with Raja Casablanca—will revitalize Wydad’s campaign and bolster their ambitions in both the Botola league and the CAF Champions League.

Meanwhile, Wydad AC’s hierarchy has expressed confidence in Carteron’s appointment, highlighting his proven track record and deep understanding of African club football as key reasons behind the decision.

As Wydad Casablanca look to regroup and push for success, all eyes will be on the French tactician to deliver results and restore stability to one of Morocco’s most storied football clubs.
