German-Sierra Leonean defender Antonio Rüdiger faces lengthy layoff in Real Madrid blow

Antonio Rudiger is facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid as his contract edges closer to its June 30 expiry date.

The experienced defender, now 33, endured a difficult spell earlier this season due to fitness concerns but has recently bounced back strongly.

His improved performances under interim coach Alvaro Arbeloa have seen him re-establish himself as an important figure in the squad. That resurgence has naturally sparked talk of a possible one-year contract extension, although nothing has been agreed yet.

Away from Madrid, interest is growing. Reports from AS indicate that Turkish giants Fenerbahce have made contact with the player’s representatives. The club, where former Madrid man Marco Asensio has featured, are said to be preparing a strong financial offer worth around €10 million plus bonuses to lure Rudiger this summer.

For now, no final decision has been made. Rudiger recently explained his stance, saying: “For me, the most important thing is to be healthy… I feel good here… But sometimes you can’t just think about the emotional side; I also have to think about the fact that I feel good and I have a job to do.”
