In-form South African midfielder Gift Links focused on club football amid persistent Bafana Bafana snub
Denmark-based midfielder Gift Links insists his responsibility lies solely with his club, Aarhus GF, as speculation swirls around potential national team call-ups.
Despite his consistent performance for the Danish outfit, the enterprising midfielder has been overlooked by South Africa coach Hugo Broos.
However, the former Cape Town City FC standout, who recently celebrated a milestone of 200 games in Denmark, insists he is not in control of Bafana Bafana selection.
“All I can do is play as much as possible here and help my team,” Links said. “That’s the most important thing. I’m not going to go ahead and ask: ‘Why am I not being selected?’ That’s not up to me.”
The 27-year-old midfielder, who has made a name for himself with consistent performances in the Danish league, emphasized the importance of focus and perseverance. “The most important thing is that I continue to work hard, and whatever happens, happens. That’s my mentality,” he added.
Links’ comments come amid growing curiosity over his absence from the South African national team. Despite a strong track record in Europe and domestic success back home, the midfielder remains patient, prioritizing club consistency over public pressure for international recognition.
With Links’ hands tied in the selection process, the spotlight now falls on national team coaches and selectors to determine whether the industrious midfielder will get his chance to represent Bafana Bafana on the international stage.
