Brentford wonderkid Michel Boni commits international future to Benin
Benin have secured a major boost ahead of the upcoming international break after highly-rated teenager Michel Boni opted to represent the West African nation at senior level.
The 18-year-old rising star, who is currently developing his talent at Brentford FC, has officially accepted a call-up from Benin head coach Gernot Rohr following a series of discussions involving his close circle.
According to Rohr, the decision did not come overnight, explaining that extensive engagement with the player’s entourage played a crucial role in securing his commitment.
“Michel Boni is both Ivorian and Beninese through his mother. We travelled to see him and managed to convince both his mother and his agent to advise him to come,” he disclosed.
Despite being eligible to represent Ivory Coast, the youngster’s personal ambition ultimately tipped the scales in Benin’s favour.
“He himself is very enthusiastic about the idea of playing for us. He is only 18 years old. He is at Brentford in England and we are delighted that he has accepted our invitation,” he added.
Boni’s decision is seen as a significant win for Benin’s national team project, as they continue to build a competitive squad blending youth and experience. His inclusion offers not only long-term promise but also immediate excitement, with fans eager to see how the talented forward adapts to international football.
The call-up marks the beginning of what many hope will be a bright international career for the teenager, as Benin look to strengthen their ranks with emerging talents on the global stage.
