Mamelodi Sundowns have been dealt a significant setback ahead of their crucial Premiership clash after three key players were ruled out due to suspension.

Defenders Aubrey Modiba and Khuliso Mudau, along with midfielder Jayden Adams, will all miss Sundowns’ encounter against Marumo Gallants scheduled for Tuesday night at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The trio’s absence presents a major challenge for the Brazilians as they continue their pursuit of the Betway Premiership title. Sundowns are currently sitting second on the league table and are determined to successfully defend their crown.

League rivals Orlando Pirates currently occupy the top spot with 48 points, one more than Sundowns, but the Buccaneers have played one match more. A victory for Sundowns against Marumo Gallants would therefore allow them to leapfrog Pirates and move back to the summit of the standings.

However, achieving that objective could prove more difficult without three of their most influential performers this season.

Mudau has established himself as one of the most dependable right-backs in South African football, while Modiba has been widely regarded as the country’s preferred option at left-back due to his consistent performances both defensively and going forward. Adams, meanwhile, has been enjoying excellent form in midfield and has become an important figure in Sundowns’ recent matches.

Their suspension leaves coach Miguel Cardoso with the difficult task of reshuffling his lineup for a match that carries significant implications in the title race.

On the other side, Marumo Gallants will enter the contest with their own motivation. The team is fighting hard for valuable points and will see Sundowns’ depleted squad as an opportunity to challenge one of the league’s most dominant sides.

Despite the setback, Sundowns remain one of the strongest teams in the division, boasting depth and experience across their squad. Nevertheless, the absence of Modiba, Mudau and Adams could test their resilience as they attempt to maintain momentum in the race for the Betway Premiership title.

With the pressure mounting and the standings finely balanced, Wednesday night’s clash promises to be a crucial battle—one that could have a major impact on the direction of the title race.
