Marseille future uncertain for Hamed Junior Traoré after injury-hit loan spell

The future of Hamed Junior Traoré at Olympique de Marseille remains uncertain as the club weighs up a purchase clause included in the midfielder’s loan from AFC Bournemouth.

The Ivory Coast international joined Marseille on loan for the season with high expectations, but his campaign was disrupted after he suffered a thigh injury last September that ruled him out for four months.

Since returning to action, the 26-year-old winger has attempted to re-establish himself in the squad, though opportunities have been limited.

Across all competitions, Traoré has made 14 appearances, scoring two goals and registering two assists, but he has largely been used from the bench.

The situation has left uncertainty over whether Marseille will complete a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

According to reports from La Provence, the loan agreement includes a mandatory purchase option under certain conditions valued at around €8 million.

That figure has raised questions given the player’s limited impact during his time at the club so far.

Despite the concerns, the clause could still oblige Marseille’s management to proceed with the deal depending on how those contractual conditions are met.

Traoré arrived in southern France with a strong reputation after an impressive spell with AJ Auxerre the previous season.

During that campaign, he scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 26 appearances, performances that helped re-establish his attacking credentials.

The Abidjan-born player, who previously played for Empoli F.C. and U.S. Sassuolo Calcio, is now entering a crucial period as the season approaches its conclusion.

With the purchase clause looming, the coming months could determine whether Traoré remains at Marseille beyond the current campaign.

For the player, the objective is clear: secure more opportunities, convince the coaching staff of his value, and justify the investment that could make his stay at the club permanent.

As the season progresses, both the player and the club face a decision that could shape their plans for the next campaign.
