Sunderland move edges closer for Lorient midfielder Arthur Avom

Midfielder Arthur Avom could soon leave FC Lorient for a move to the Premier League, with Sunderland A.F.C. emerging as the leading contender to secure the 21‑year‑old Cameroonian’s signature.

The promising youngster, who currently plays in Ligue 1, is approaching the end of his contract at Lorient, prompting growing speculation about his future ahead of the summer transfer window.

Reports suggest discussions between Sunderland and the player’s representatives are already well advanced.

A deal under consideration would reportedly see Avom sign a four‑year contract with the English club, with the option of an additional year included in the agreement.

Avom is also said to be familiar with Sunderland’s project because of his connection with coach Régis Le Bris.

The midfielder previously worked under the French manager and is understood to be enthusiastic about the prospect of joining him again in England.

The potential transfer would represent a major step in the young midfielder’s career, particularly given the attention he has attracted from several clubs across Europe.

Teams including Chelsea F.C., RC Strasbourg Alsace and Stade Rennais F.C. have all been linked with the player in recent months.

Despite that interest, Sunderland now appear to be in the strongest position to complete the move if negotiations continue to progress as expected.

Avom began his career with Fauve Azur Elite in Cameroon before moving to Lorient, where he has developed into one of the club’s most promising young players.

With his contract situation unresolved, the midfielder’s future has become an increasing topic of discussion as the end of the season approaches.

Should the proposed deal be finalised, the move would see him swap France’s top division for English football and potentially mark a significant turning point in his development.

For Lorient, it could also mean losing one of the emerging talents within their squad, while Sunderland would gain a young midfielder regarded as having considerable potential.
