The best player of UEFA in 2013 is Franck Ribery. The Bayern Munich attacking midfielder was chosen over Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi, the Argentine star, expressed no disappointment with the decision and conveyed his feelings on the UEFA website.
“Disappointed? No, not at all. It was an honor to be there, to be one of the three best players in Europe. There are so many great players in the world, and it’s a real pleasure to compete against them, but he deserved to win.”
The next challenge for Ribery is to secure the Ballon d’Or. However, despite being voted the best European player, the Frenchman is not the favorite for this distinction, a situation reminiscent of last year when Andrés Iniesta saw his teammate Messi crowned the best player in the world.
