Dutch-born winger Ibrahim Cissoko switches allegiance to represent Guinea
Dutch-born winger Ibrahim Cissoko has officially chosen to represent Guinea, turning his back on the Netherlands to commit his international future to the West African nation.
The 22-year-old attacker, who previously featured for various Dutch youth national teams, has decided to change his sporting nationality in order to defend the colours of his country of origin on the international stage. His decision marks a significant boost for Guinea as the national team continues to strengthen its squad with talented players competing in European leagues.
Born in Nijmegen in the Netherlands, Cissoko developed through the Dutch football system and represented the country at youth level during the early stages of his career. However, after careful consideration, the winger has chosen to honour his Guinean roots by committing to the Syli National.
Cissoko’s change of international allegiance has now been made official, opening the door for him to receive his first senior call-up when Guinea gathers for the next international break in March 2026. The upcoming camp could provide the perfect opportunity for the young winger to make his debut and begin his journey with the national team.
At club level, Cissoko currently plays for Bolton Wanderers in EFL League One, the third tier of English football. He joined the club on loan from French side Toulouse FC as he continues to develop his career in European football.
Known for his pace, dribbling ability and attacking flair on the wings, Cissoko is regarded as a promising talent capable of adding creativity and dynamism to Guinea’s attacking line. His experience in different European leagues could prove valuable for the Syli National as the team prepares for upcoming international competitions.
Guinea’s technical staff will likely be keen to integrate the winger into the squad quickly, as the national team seeks to blend emerging talents with experienced players in order to remain competitive on the African and global stage.
For Cissoko, the decision represents both a personal and professional milestone. By choosing Guinea, he now has the opportunity to showcase his talent on the international stage while representing the country of his heritage.
If selected during the upcoming international window, the 22-year-old winger could soon make his first appearance for the Syli National, marking the beginning of what many hope will be a successful international career with Guinea.
