Omar Marmoush deserves a starting spot at Manchester City – Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino
Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has lavished praise on Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush, describing him as one of the Premier League’s most talented players despite not being a regular starter for Manchester City.
Marmoush was the hero as City advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals last Saturday, scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United. Despite this standout performance, the Egyptian international has only completed 90 minutes in three matches this season, highlighting the challenge he faces in breaking into Pep Guardiola’s starting XI.
Speaking to Talksport, Cascarino posed a question to highlight Marmoush’s unique situation.
“Is Marmoush the best player in the Premier League who is not guaranteed a starting place? If I were asked to nominate a player for any club I play for, I think he is the best and deserves to be a starter. Marmoush is the perfect choice.”
Cascarino also reflected on Marmoush’s role in high-profile fixtures, such as the upcoming clash against Real Madrid.
“Marmoush is the best player who doesn’t get the chance to play regularly, but I doubt that he will be among the 11 players against Real Madrid,” he said, underscoring the challenge of finding consistent opportunities in a star-studded City squad.
“He’s a fantastic player, a phenomenal talent. You can see how brilliant he is and how he scored a goal like that. Were you surprised? No. That’s why City signed him. It seems he hasn’t found the right place at City, but he’s a fantastic player in every sense of the word, truly amazing.”
Marmoush’s performances, combined with Cascarino’s glowing assessment, have drawn attention from fans and pundits alike, emphasizing that while he may not always start, the Egyptian forward possesses the ability to influence big matches and deliver when called upon.
