Victor Osimhen strikes as ten-man Galatasaray hold off Beşiktaş

Victor Osimhen scored the only goal as Galatasaray secured a narrow 1-0 victory over city rivals Beşiktaş in a fiercely contested Istanbul derby on Saturday evening.

In a match charged with intensity and drama, the Nigerian striker produced the decisive moment with a powerful header that ultimately separated the two sides.

The goal arrived from a precise cross delivered by Leroy Sané, whose contribution proved crucial despite his later dismissal.

The derby, regarded as one of the most highly anticipated fixtures in Turkish football, was closely fought throughout.

Both sides battled for control in a tense atmosphere, but it was Galatasaray who found the breakthrough through Osimhen’s aerial finish.

Sané’s evening, however, took a turn shortly after providing the assist. The winger was shown a second yellow card in the 62nd minute and was sent off, forcing Galatasaray to continue the contest with ten men.

From that point on, the hosts were required to defend their slender advantage while under increasing pressure from Beşiktaş.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Galatasaray held firm until the final whistle to secure a significant victory in the race for the league title.

Osimhen’s goal further highlights the strong form he has shown this season. According to statistics relayed by Complete Sports, the strike marked his 11th goal in the league campaign.

The former Napoli forward has also contributed four assists in 18 appearances, underlining his growing influence in Galatasaray’s attacking play.

The 27-year-old remained a constant threat throughout the match, leading the line and pressing the Beşiktaş defence until the closing stages.

The derby also featured an intriguing individual contest between Nigerian internationals. Wilfred Ndidi started in midfield for Beşiktaş and made his 19th league appearance of the season.

Despite his efforts to control the midfield and support his side’s push for an equaliser, Beşiktaş were unable to break down Galatasaray’s determined defence.

In the end, Osimhen’s decisive header proved enough to settle the encounter, handing Galatasaray three valuable points and local bragging rights in one of Turkey’s most intense rivalries.
