Omar Marmoush’s double sends Manchester City into FA Cup quarter-finals past Newcastle
Manchester City came from behind to beat Newcastle 3-1 at St James’ Park, sealing a spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals and extending their dominance over the Magpies this season to four wins from four meetings.
Newcastle started brightly and were rewarded when Harvey Barnes was left in space inside the box and coolly curled home the opener.
City took time to respond but grew into the game, finally drawing level in the 39th minute when Savinho tapped into an empty net after good work from Jeremy Doku. After the break, it was all City, with Omar Marmoush completely turning the tie around.
The Egyptian striker struck twice, first making it 2-1 just after half-time before adding a third on 65 minutes from a Matheus Nunes assist.
Those goals took Marmoush’s tally against Newcastle to seven in just five games, remarkably accounting for half of his total goals for City so far. Pep Guardiola’s side comfortably saw out the win, leaving Newcastle frustrated and booking their place in Monday’s quarter-final draw.
