Bukayo Saka signs new Arsenal deal to become club’s top earner

Bukayo Saka revealed that Arsenal’s players felt an immediate lift when they realised Manchester City had dropped points against Nottingham Forest on the same night they beat Brighton.

As the team went over to applaud the travelling supporters, Saka sensed something special in the away end’s reaction.

“As we went to clap the fans they burst out into another roar and I could tell something had gone on in the other games and then Mikel came and told me that City had drawn 2-2,” said Saka. “It gives us a great feeling. We fought hard as we knew it was a massive game for Arsenal regardless of the other results as we cannot control what they did.

“We won against Brighton and then we found out we were a step ahead in the race. It is just amazing for us.” The midweek results leave Arsenal seven points clear of City, although Pep Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand, ensuring the title race remains finely poised heading into the run-in.
