Former Ghana international Quincy Owusu-Abeyie is confident about the Black Stars chances ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.
The global showpiece, to be co-hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico will feature an expanded 48 countries, with Ghana securing one of Africa’s automatic nine slots for the tournament.
The West African powerhouse are paired in Group L alongside one-time champion, England, 2018 finalist, Croatia and Panama.
Ghana will open their account at the global showpiece against Panama, followed by European giants, England. The Black Stars will wrap up their group against Croatia in a high-stake clash.
“Don’t worry, the Black Stars will perform at the 2026 World Cup” he told Adom FM.
The upcoming tournament will be Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance, having previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, with their best performance coming in 2010 when they reached the quarterfinals.
As part of preparations for the biggest soccer mundial, the Ghana FA has secured four high-profile friendly matches for the Black Stars before the commencement of the tournament in June.
The team’s build-up begins on Friday, March 27, when they face Austria at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium. Three days later, the Black Stars travel to Stuttgart to take on Germany at the MHP Arena.
In May, head coach Otto Addo will guide the team through another warm-up match against Mexico, before finalizing preparation with their first ever encounter against Wales in June 2, 2026 at Cardiff City Stadium.
The 39-year-old former Ghana international made 18 appearances for the Black Stars, scoring two goals between 2008 and 2011.
