Botola Pro 1: We showed signs of champions against Wydad AC – AS FAR midfielder Rabie Hrimat
AS FAR midfielder Rabie Hrimat praised his teammates following their important victory over Wydad AC in the Moroccan Botola Pro 1 on Wednesday night.
The Rabat-based side secured a hard-fought 2-1 triumph in the heated Clasico encounter played at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, a result that has added fresh momentum to the title race.
Speaking after the match, Hrimat highlighted the determination and character shown by his teammates against one of Morocco’s biggest clubs.
“We deserved this win against Wydad. They are a strong side, but AS FAR showed its character. The personality of a champion appears in these big games. We came to Casablanca for three points, and we achieved that,” he said.
The midfielder also expressed gratitude to the club’s supporters who travelled to back the team.
“I appreciate our supporters who stood by us even during Ramadan. We left the ball to Wydad early, then took control. We want to keep improving match by match, and why not aim for all trophies this season,” the midfielder noted.
Hrimat also acknowledged the expectations that come with representing the historic military club.
“Wydad are a great team with quality players, but the AS FAR jersey is heavy. Our fans demand victories, whether in the league or the Champions League. This is only the beginning, and we will try to deliver both performance and results,” Hrimat stated.
The match began dramatically when Wydad defender Walid Sabber accidentally diverted a corner into his own net in the 19th minute, handing AS FAR the early advantage.
Wydad responded before halftime through Hakim Ziyech, who produced a stunning long-range strike to bring the home side level.
However, AS FAR regained control in the second half when Youssef El Fahli completed a well worked attacking move to restore the visitors’ lead. Wydad’s situation worsened shortly afterward when Ziyech was forced off with an injury in the 58th minute, prompting a tactical reshuffle.
The victory lifts AS FAR to third place with 25 points from 11 matches, just one point behind Wydad, who remain on 26. Meanwhile, Raja Casablanca sit at the top of the table with 27 points from 14 matches, although both AS FAR and Wydad still have three games in hand.
Attention now turns to the next round of fixtures, with Wydad set to face Union Touarga Sport at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat, while AS FAR will travel to take on Renaissance Club Zemamra at Ahmed Choukri Stadium.
