Hakim Ziyech’s brilliant strike not enough as Wydad lose to AS FAR

Hakim Ziyech produced a moment of brilliance for Wydad Casablanca, scoring a remarkable long-range strike against AS FAR, but the goal was not enough to prevent his side from suffering a 2-1 defeat in the ninth round of the Botola Pro.

The Moroccan attacking midfielder, now 32, once again demonstrated his technical ability during Tuesday evening’s match at the Mohammed V Complex.

His powerful and precise effort brought Wydad level after the visitors had taken the lead, briefly reigniting hopes for the home side.

The game began with AS FAR making the stronger start. The visitors went ahead in the 19th minute when Wydad defender Walid Sabbar inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, giving the military club an early advantage.

Wydad responded less than ten minutes later through Ziyech. In the 28th minute, the former Ajax Amsterdam midfielder struck from distance, unleashing a powerful shot that flew past the goalkeeper and into the net.

The effort drew admiration from supporters and observers alike, underlining why the experienced playmaker remains one of the most influential talents in Moroccan football.

Despite the equaliser, Wydad were unable to build on the momentum created by the goal. The match remained closely contested until the second half, when AS FAR regained control.

The decisive moment came after the interval, when Youssef El Fahli scored to restore the visitors’ lead. His goal ultimately proved enough to secure the victory for AS FAR, who held on until the final whistle.

The result had implications for the league standings. With the win, AS FAR moved up to 25 points, placing them third in the table. Wydad, meanwhile, remained on 26 points and continue to occupy second place.

The evening also brought concern for the home side regarding their star midfielder. Ziyech was forced to leave the field in the second half after experiencing muscle discomfort.

The Moroccan international will now undergo medical tests to determine the exact nature of the problem, with the club awaiting further updates on his condition following the match.
