Jalal Abdullai: Norwegian centre-forward linked with move to Molde FK

Molde FK have completed the permanent signing of Ghanaian centre-forward Jalal Abdullai from Swedish side IF Elfsborg, with the Norwegian club paying a confirmed fee of €3.00m for the 21-year-old. The deal begins on 2026-03-04 and runs until 2025-12-31, turning Abdullai’s previous loan spell in Norway into a full-time move and making him one of the more valuable young attackers in the Eliteserien, where his current market value is listed at €2.00m.

The transfer finalises a familiar route for Abdullai, who already spent part of the 24/25 campaign on loan at Molde from Elfsborg. After that temporary stint ended with his return to Sweden at the end of the loan, Molde have now moved decisively to secure his rights, bringing him back from the Allsvenskan to Norway’s top flight on a standard, permanent transfer. With the contract already set to expire on 2025-12-31, there is a clear scenario in which the Ghanaian forward could enter free agency at the end of that term if no extension is agreed.

Abdullai, born on 05 Jan 2005 and standing at 1.86 m, has been used primarily as a centre-forward and is listed as a right-footed attacker. His career path has taken him from Ghana’s Inter Allies FC to Elfsborg in Sweden in 2023, before his first move to Molde on loan in March 2025. That initial switch saw him step out of the Allsvenskan and into the Eliteserien, gaining experience abroad away from his home country Ghana and adjusting to a different football culture and tempo.

While detailed seasonal statistics such as appearances, goals, and assists are not provided, the trajectory of Abdullai’s market value offers an indication of his development. At Elfsborg, his value rose sharply from €150k in 2023 to €2.50m by late 2024, reflecting his growing reputation. During his loan at Molde, that figure stabilised around the €2.20m–€2.50m mark before being assessed at €2.00m in December 2025, still a substantial valuation for a young forward.

The move also underlines Molde’s commitment to investing in promising attacking talent from outside Norway’s borders, continuing a trend of Eliteserien clubs recruiting aggressively from other Scandinavian leagues and beyond. For Elfsborg, who first brought Abdullai to Europe from Inter Allies, the €3.00m fee represents a significant return on a player they originally signed without any publicly listed fee.

Abdullai’s previous experience in Sweden’s Allsvenskan and Norway’s Eliteserien means he is already familiar with the physical and tactical demands of Nordic football. Now, with his future tied to Molde at least through 2025-12-31, the Ghanaian will look to consolidate his position, justify the outlay, and potentially set himself up either for a contract extension or a high-profile move when his deal nears its conclusion.
