Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses rescue late draw against Burkina Faso in second friendly
The Moroccan women’s national football team secured a dramatic 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso women’s national football team in their second friendly of the week, held Tuesday evening at the City Stadium, Rabat.
Burkina Faso looked set to snatch victory when Naubet Kabri struck from outside the penalty area in the 81st minute, sending a powerful shot past Moroccan goalkeeper Ines Rouissa. The goal put the visitors ahead, sparking a tense finish as the Atlas Lionesses pressed for an equalizer.
Morocco found their breakthrough deep into stoppage time (90+3) thanks to Sanaa Mesoudi. The forward expertly finished a precise cross from midfielder Elodie Nakach, salvaging a point in a thrilling finale.
During the first half, national coach Jorge Vilda Rodríguez rotated his squad, giving opportunities to several players who hadn’t featured in the team’s first friendly. The second half saw the introduction of key figures, including captain Ghizlane Chebbak, forwards Sanaa Mesoudi and Ibtissam Jraidi, helping Morocco dominate possession and control the pace of the game.
The draw followed a commanding 5-0 win for Morocco in their opening friendly, highlighting their depth and versatility as they continue preparations for major competitions, including the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Atlas Lionesses are currently in a training camp at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, Maâmora, Salé.
