Nigeria’s Nigeria women’s national football team staged a commanding comeback to defeat Cameroon women’s national football team 3–1 in an international friendly at the Military Stadium on Tuesday, sending a strong statement ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The victory marked a sharp response from the nine-time African champions, who had narrowly lost the first encounter 1–0 to the Indomitable Lionesses. This time, however, the Super Falcons displayed greater urgency, composure and cutting edge in front of goal.

Cameroon struck early when Christiane found the net in just the 7th minute, momentarily silencing the Nigerian bench. But the Super Falcons gradually settled into the contest and began asserting their authority.

Their persistence paid off in the 32nd minute when forward Chiwendu Ihezuo calmly slotted home the equaliser to restore parity. Buoyed by the goal, Nigeria continued to press and were rewarded again just before halftime as Rinsola Babajide fired them into the lead.

After the break, Nigeria maintained control, dictating tempo and limiting Cameroon’s attacking opportunities. The decisive moment came shortly after the hour mark when captain Rasheedat Ajibade delivered a pinpoint cross that was powerfully headed home by Michelle Alozie to seal a convincing 3–1 triumph.

The result will boost confidence within the Nigerian camp as preparations intensify for WAFCON 2026. The Super Falcons are drawn in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt and Malawi. They will kick off their campaign against Malawi in Casablanca on March 18.

With momentum building and key players finding form, Nigeria appear determined to reclaim continental dominance when the tournament gets underway.
