SAFA, adidas unveil the 2026/2027 South Africa home jersey

The South African Football Association (SAFA), in partnership with adidas, unveiled the new 2026/2027 home jerseys for both Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana on Tuesday, marking a bold evolution of an iconic national design.

Inspired by the memorable 2010 World Cup kit—a defining symbol of South African football pride—the latest jersey pays homage to that legacy while embracing a modern, performance-driven aesthetic. The familiar yellow base with green trim remains, reflecting national identity, but enhanced detailing and refined construction give the kit a contemporary edge, engineered for the demands of today’s global game.

A standout feature is the jersey’s celebration of South Africa’s 12 official languages. Subtle graphics woven into the fabric symbolize the diverse voices that unite fans across stadiums at home and abroad. Tom Brown, Senior Marketing Director for adidas South Africa, highlighted the connection to the 2010 design: “The original World Cup jersey included 11 small lines in the collar to reference the nation’s languages. This new design reimagines that concept to proudly reflect all 12 official languages, capturing South Africa’s diversity and unity.”

The kit also underscores SAFA and adidas’ commitment to gender equity in football. Designed with bespoke fits for both men and women, the jerseys provide a high-performance platform for both Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana as they prepare for major tournaments. SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao added, “Banyana Banyana will debut the kit during the opening day of WAFCON 2026 in Morocco, while Bafana Bafana will wear theirs against Mexico in the FIFA 2026 World Cup. This launch is a source of inspiration for our junior teams aspiring to represent South Africa at the highest level.”

Technically, the jerseys incorporate adidas’ latest CLIMACOOL+ technology, featuring engineered stretch fabrics and 3D body mapping to optimize ventilation and keep players dry in high-intensity conditions. Additional perforated three-stripe panels and mesh zones improve airflow and comfort. A lenticular heat-applied federation crest and adidas logo add a bold, shapeshifting visual effect, elevating the kit’s modern look.

Fans can expect the SAFA away jersey to be revealed on 19 March 2026 alongside other adidas federation kits. The 2026/2027 home jersey will be available from 20 March at adidas stores, online at www.adidas.co.za, and through selected wholesale partners.
