Botola Pro 1: Raja Climbs to Summit of league table after narrow triumph over Hassania Agadir

Raja Casablanca surged to the top of the Botola Pro standings after grinding out a 1-0 victory away to Hassania Agadir in Round 14.

The breakthrough arrived early in the contest when Nigerian forward Mathias Oyewusi struck in the 14th minute to hand the visitors a lead they would not relinquish.

The hosts believed they had restored parity in the second half through former Wydad man Mohamed Onajem, who found the net in the 63rd minute. However, celebrations were cut short after the goal was ruled out for offside.

Raja managed the closing stages with composure, protecting their slender advantage until the final whistle to secure three crucial points. The win lifted the Casablanca giants to 27 points from 14 matches, while Agadir remained ninth with 15 points.

Attention now turns to their next assignment, a home clash against Olympic Club de Safi at Stade Mohamed V on March 7. The Greens will be eager to maintain momentum as the title race gathers pace.

Meanwhile, Wydad Casablanca kept the pressure firmly on their city rivals with a dramatic 1-0 triumph over Renaissance Berkane. In a tightly contested encounter, neither side managed to break the deadlock until deep into stoppage time.

The decisive moment came in the 90+8 minute when Hakim Ziyech calmly converted from the penalty spot to snatch all three points in front of a tense crowd. It was a cruel blow for Berkane, who had matched Wydad throughout the contest.

The victory moved Wydad to 26 points, just one behind Raja, despite having played only 10 matches. Berkane stayed on 18 points, also with games in hand that could yet influence the standings.

Wydad’s focus now shifts to a heavyweight showdown against AS FAR on March 4 at Stade Mohamed V. The rescheduled Round 9 fixture promises to be one of the season’s defining encounters, with both sides firmly in the hunt for the league crown.

Elsewhere, AS FAR produced a commanding 3-0 win over CODM Meknes, while MAS Fes were held to a 1-1 draw by KACM. Difaa El Jadida edged Union Yacoub El-Mansour 2-1, and FUS Rabat claimed a narrow 3-2 victory against Renaissance Zemamra.

Olympic Safi and Olympique Dcheira played out a stalemate, while Ittihad Tanger shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Union Touarga.

After 14 rounds, Raja lead the standings on 27 points, with Wydad breathing down their necks on 26. MAS Fes sit third on 24 points, CODM Meknes hold fourth with 23, and AS FAR are fifth on 22, albeit with fewer matches played.

With more than half of the campaign still to unfold, the Botola Pro title race is intensifying. The Casablanca rivals are setting the pace, but a cluster of contenders remain within striking distance, ensuring that every upcoming fixture could reshape the battle at the top.
