Morocco star Hakim Ziyech scores from the spot to seal late win for Wydad AC in Moroccan top-flight

Wydad Athletic Club extended their winning streak with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Renaissance Berkane at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, during the 14th round of the Professional League.

The first half was a tactical chess match, dominated by midfield battles and tight defensive play. Both sides created chances but struggled to convert. Wydad’s Ramo Vaca came close in the 21st minute with a thunderous effort that was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Anas Zniti, while Berkane’s Youssef Mehri rattled the right post with a powerful strike.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with strong tackles and defensive discipline keeping clear-cut chances to a minimum. The breakthrough finally came in stoppage time when substitute Walid Nassi was brought down in the box by El Assal, earning Wydad a penalty. Hakim Ziyech calmly stepped up and fired past Zniti to claim the decisive goal.

The victory lifts Wydad Casablanca to second place with 26 points, while RS Berkane remain in seventh with 18 points, both teams having played four matches fewer than many rivals.

Looking ahead, Wydad will host AS FAR, and RS Berkane will face Hassania Agadir in the rescheduled Matchday 9 fixtures on Wednesday.
