Toure Kone-Doherty departs Liverpool for fresh start with Molde
Republic of Ireland youth international Trent Toure Kone-Doherty has completed a permanent move from Liverpool F.C. to Norwegian side Molde FK, signing a four-year contract as he seeks regular senior football after progressing through the Reds’ academy system.
The 19-year-old winger arrived at Anfield from Derry City F.C. in 2022 and quickly established himself as one of Liverpool’s promising attacking prospects.
During his time on Merseyside, Kone-Doherty featured prominently across the club’s U18, U19 and U21 sides, earning recognition for his direct style and attacking confidence. However, with his contract approaching its expiry this summer and first-team opportunities limited, both player and club opted for a move that prioritises long-term development.
Despite spending most of his spell within the academy structure, Kone-Doherty did gain senior exposure. He made his Liverpool debut as a substitute during an FA Cup defeat to Plymouth Argyle F.C. in February 2025 before registering a second appearance later that year in a Carabao Cup loss against Crystal Palace F.C. at Anfield. Those outings offered a glimpse of his potential but also highlighted the intense competition for attacking places within Liverpool’s squad.
Molde, who finished 10th in Norway’s top division last season, present a platform for the teenager to transition fully into senior football ahead of the 2026 campaign, which begins in March. The club has built a reputation for nurturing young talent and providing emerging players with consistent first-team opportunities.
“It is the perfect club for me to come to. I like the project I have been presented with here and I am very excited to get started,” Kone-Doherty told Molde’s official website.
“I am a player who likes to get the fans up from their seats. I always try to express myself on the pitch and be fearless.”
