Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko to get new board, ending interim management era
Ghanaian football powerhouse, Asante Kotoko, is on the brink of a major leadership reshuffle, with life patron His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II preparing to announce a new board to replace the current Interim Management Committee (IMC).
The IMC, led by Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah, has been at the helm since the dissolution of the Kwame Kyei-led board in 2023, but sources indicate that the club’s top hierarchy is dissatisfied with its performance and plans to dissolve it in March.
The IMC’s tenure has been marked by challenges in internally generating funds to sustain the club, a shortfall that has reportedly fueled the decision to seek new leadership.
Kickgh.com reports that the incoming board will be spearheaded by prominent business figures Mr. Kwasi Osei Ofori and Dr. Kofi Amoa-Abban, who are expected to present their management team and oversee the club’s operations for the next five years.
Osei Ofori and Amoa-Abban are no strangers to Kotoko’s administration, having previously served on the club’s board before its 2023 dissolution. Their prior contributions included investing over Gh¢2 million into the club and providing vehicles to support the technical team, reflecting a hands-on commitment to the team’s development.
Mr. Osei Ofori, CEO of Rocksure International, brings over four decades of business experience spanning construction, mining, and equipment rentals across West Africa and Europe. His strategic partnerships with suppliers, financiers, and industry professionals have reinforced his reputation as a capable negotiator and visionary leader.
He currently serves on the Board of the Underground Mining Alliance, overseeing operations at the Obuasi Underground mines and contributing to the development of the Nyinahin Block B bauxite concession.
Dr. Kofi Amoa-Abban, founder and CEO of Rigworld Group, is a leading figure in Ghana’s oil and gas sector. His enterprises span Africa, Europe, and Asia, covering engineering, shipping, energy, and training services. Recognized with the 2018 Young Achiever Award at the Ghana Oil and Gas Awards, Amoa-Abban has a track record of strategic leadership and philanthropy.
The announcement of the new board signals a decisive shift in Kotoko’s governance, aiming to stabilize finances, strengthen operational management, and restore the club’s competitive edge in the Ghana Premier League.
