Victor Osimhen hopes to avoid Liverpool in Champions League last 16

Victor Osimhen has admitted he would rather Galatasaray steer clear of Liverpool in the upcoming Champions League last-16 draw after helping his side knock out Juventus to reach the next round.

The Nigerian striker spoke candidly about the challenge Liverpool present and the sense of unfinished business he feels.

Osimhen told CBS Sports: “I mean to be honest with you, meeting Liverpool now is going to be like some sort of revenge. Anyone we meet now… I wouldn’t say much but I would like to escape Liverpool. ‘But if they come, yeah, we’re going to dig it out but it’s not going to be easy,”

He underlined how demanding the competition is, pointing to the impressive form of sides like Bodo/Glimt as proof that there are no straightforward ties at this stage. “I mean this is Champions League, no team is easy, we can see how flying Bodo/Glimt are really doing in this tournament,”

Osimhen added that to win the tournament you must face “the big dogs” and make your mark, and said a potential clash with Liverpool at Anfield would be “an amazing game” that Galatasaray feel ready for, even if it will be far from simple.
