Striker Mohammed Sherif’s future sparks fierce internal debate at Al Ahly

A storm is quietly brewing inside Al Ahly SC as the club’s hierarchy remains split over the fate of striker Mohamed Sherif ahead of the summer transfer window.

With preparations underway for the new season, Al Ahly’s decision-makers are carefully evaluating the squad, and Sherif’s situation has emerged as one of the most contentious issues. The forward has recently fallen out of favour under Danish head coach Jes Thorup, raising serious questions about his long-term place in the team.

Per reports, the coaching staff believe Sherif is currently behind the club’s attacking options and struggling to compete at the required level.

However, the club’s planning committee holds a different view. They are backing Sherif to remain at the club and are pushing for a broader attacking overhaul instead. Their proposal includes activating the permanent signing of Marwan Osman from Ceramica Cleopatra FC and recruiting a high-profile foreign striker in the summer window.

The committee is also reportedly unconvinced by the output of South African forward Percy Tau, who joined from Tromsø IL but has struggled to meet expectations during his stint.

Despite the internal divide, Al Ahly are not rushing into a verdict. The club is expected to hand Sherif a genuine opportunity in the coming fixtures to prove his worth before a final decision is made regarding his future.

Attention now shifts to Saturday’s Egyptian Premier League clash against ZED FC, where the Red Devils will look to strengthen their position in the title race. Currently sitting third on the table with 36 points, Al Ahly know that both domestic ambitions and key personnel decisions hang in the balance.
