Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso backs injured duo Arthur Sales and Monnapule Saleng
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has underlined the importance of injured forwards Arthur Sales and Monnapule Saleng, insisting the pair embody exactly what the club require in their attacking department at this stage of the season.
Both players are currently sidelined with injuries, leaving Sundowns short of options upfront. However, Cardoso has moved to calm any concerns, revealing that the duo are making steady progress under the supervision of the club’s medical team.
Speaking after Sundowns’ hard-fought 1-0 victory over AmaZulu FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium in a Betway Premiership clash, the Portuguese tactician dismissed any negative speculation surrounding Saleng’s situation.
“There’s no need for those kinds of bad thoughts, let’s say. So, Saleng is still injured. It’s a situation that is obviously progressing. Let’s see when he can help the team,” Cardoso said.
He also addressed the absence of Sales, acknowledging the impact both players would have if available.
“Also, Arthur Sales is still out, which obviously makes you understand clearly that those are positions where we need energy, we need characteristics that the two of them can bring into the team.”
Their absence has undeniably left Sundowns thin in attacking areas, particularly as both players are capable of operating as forwards and adding dynamism to the final third.
Saleng, who joined the Brazilians in the January transfer window from Orlando Pirates via a loan stint at Orbit College FC, is yet to make his official debut for the Tshwane giants. His injury has delayed what many fans hoped would be an immediate impact at Chloorkop.
As Sundowns continue their push in the league, Cardoso will be hoping for the swift return of both attackers, whose pace, movement and attacking instincts could prove crucial in the decisive phase of the campaign.
