Monaco sweat over Krepin Diatta injury ahead of PSG decider
AS Monaco is facing an anxious wait over Krepin Diatta’s fitness just days before their crucial Champions League playoff second leg against PSG.
The Senegal international picked up a thigh injury during Saturday’s Ligue 1 clash with Lens, casting serious doubt over his availability.
Deployed at right-back, Diatta appeared to feel discomfort shortly after the 15th minute but tried to push through the pain and stay on the pitch. His effort was short-lived, as the pain intensified and he was forced off in the 31st minute, leaving Monaco to finish the match without him in a game they eventually lost 3-2.
The timing could hardly be worse for coach Sebastien Pocognoli, who already faces the demanding task of overturning a first-leg deficit against a PSG side strong at home.
Diatta’s pace, energy and work rate down the flank have been key to Monaco’s game plan, especially in big European nights.
The club will now rely on medical tests to determine whether he can make the trip to the Parc des Princes, knowing that his presence, or absence, could play a major role in their hopes of reaching the next round.
