“Ramadan makes me better” – Karim Benzema reveals
Veteran striker Karim Benzema has long spoken about the significance of Ramadan in both his personal and professional life, revealing that the holy month often coincides with some of his most impactful performances.
Now with Al-Hilal, Benzema says this boost is driven more by mindset than physical changes.
In a brief interview shared by Al-Hilal, Benzema was asked about his reputation for shining during Ramadan.
With a smile, he said “Yes, that’s true… because it’s Ramadan.”
Though short, the comment reflects a recurring pattern throughout his career.
Benzema has consistently maintained that fasting does not weaken him physically. On the contrary, he believes it enhances concentration, motivation, and mental clarity.
“My performances are better during Ramadan. It makes me more focused and increases my strength and enthusiasm,” he has stated in previous interviews, emphasizing the month’s role in his discipline and balance as an athlete.
The phenomenon of “Ramadan Benzema” became widely recognized during his time at Real Madrid, most notably in the spring of 2022. During that period, he delivered a series of decisive Champions League performances, including a memorable hat-trick against Chelsea in the quarter-final first leg shortly after breaking his fast.
The display helped define Real Madrid’s European campaign that season and reinforced the idea that Ramadan often brought out the best in him.
Now preparing for his first Ramadan match of 2026 with Al-Hilal, Benzema will face his former club Al-Ittihad in a derby at Kingdom Arena.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, he reiterated that he feels at his “best level” during Ramadan and hopes to continue that trend this season.
At this stage in his career, Benzema views the month not as a challenge to manage carefully, but as a period that sharpens his focus and competitive spirit. The combination of fasting, routine, and the atmosphere surrounding Ramadan appears to enhance both his mental and physical performance on the pitch.
