RS Berkane drags Senegal midfielder Mamadou Camara to FIFA over Al-Ahli Tripoli transfer fiasco

Moroccan club Renaissance Berkane has escalated the case of Senegalese midfielder Mamadou Camara to FIFA after a controversial move to Libyan side Al-Ahli Tripoli.

Camara, whose contract with Renaissance Berkane was reportedly valid until 2027, left for Al-Ahli Tripoli without proper authorization, prompting the Moroccan club to appeal to FIFA to protect its contractual rights.

The move followed an agreement in which Al-Ahli Tripoli would pay Camara’s penalty clause, but the player was not registered before the Libyan league’s winter transfer window closed.

In response, Al-Ahli Tripoli released an official statement explaining the situation. The club said it had completed all contractual procedures in a legally correct manner with the player and his lawyer. However, the final registration could not be completed in time due to delays in the submission of required documents, leaving the club unable to officially sign Camara before the deadline.

“While Al-Ahli raced against time to finalize the player’s registration, the limited time and delay in completing the final agreement prompted us to thank Mamadou Camara and his lawyer for their efforts and for choosing Al-Ahli’s offer,” the club stated. Al-Ahli also confirmed its ongoing commitment to strengthening the squad in the next transfer period.

The dispute comes as Renaissance Berkane prepare for a crucial African Champions League quarter-final clash against Al-Hilal of Sudan. The winner of this tie will face the victor of the Pyramids FC vs. Royal Army matchup.

This FIFA appeal adds a layer of uncertainty over Camara’s eligibility and could have wider implications for both clubs in upcoming continental competitions.
