Former Esperance goalkeeper Ben Cherifia wishes club well ahead of Al Ahly showdown
Former Esperance goalkeeper Moez Ben Cherifia has sent well wishes to his former club ahead of their crucial ACF Champions League quarterfinal clash next month.
The Tunisian powerhouse has been paired against the Egyptian giants in the last eight of the CAF’s elite club competition.
The first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals has been scheduled for March 13-14, with the reverse clash slated for March 20-21.
Al Ahly will travel to face Esperance in the first leg tie in Rades before hosting the return clash at the Cairo International Stadium.
Speaking to Tunisian website Foot24, Ben Cherifia, who currently plies his trade Soliman sent best wishes to his former team, stressing it difficult for him to watch Esperance-Al Ahly clash on television.
“From my experience, facing Esperance against Al Ahly is special, and it doesn’t matter who is stronger and who is weaker.”
“You have two matches, one in Rades and the other in Egypt, and I wish Esperance the best of luck. It is very difficult for me to watch Esperance against Al Ahly on television this time.” He concluded.
Ben Cherifia played 14 matches with Esperance against Al Ahly in the African Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions, securing two wins, eight draws and 4 defeats.
He conceded 20 times against Al Ahly, keeping only three clean sheets across the period.
