Adrien Anigo endured a tragic incident, being shot multiple times, which has left Olympique de Marseille (OM) in a state of shock. Adrien, the son of the Marseille football legend José Anigo, who serves as the 50-year-old sports director of OM, faced this unfortunate fate.

José Anigo has dedicated thirty-five years exclusively to OM, where he played and later took on coaching roles. Over the past six years, he has held the position of an indispensable sports director, witnessing numerous presidents, coaches, and stars pass through the club.

Despite the challenges, José Anigo has shown resilience, earning a legendary status. He emphasizes his innocence, stating, “I’m not doing anything wrong, and I have nothing to hide.” The Anigo family resides in a large property in Aubagne, monitored year-round by security guards. Despite personal challenges, José Anigo chooses to keep a low profile, acknowledging that withdrawal can be a means of self-protection.

José Anigo, who grew up in Consolat, a working-class neighborhood in the north of Marseille, reflects on his youth and family. He faced the tragedy of losing his older brother in a moped accident at the age of 12, finding solace in his Catholic faith. At 15, he began his training at OM, leading to a storied career with the club.

The family has faced hardships, notably in March 2007, when José Anigo’s son Adrien, then 28, was accused of several robberies, allegedly linked to the “jewelers gang.” Adrien spent time in prison but was released in March 2010 due to a procedural error. José Anigo addressed this challenging period, stating, “The street sucked my son in, but that only concerns justice. Today, who cares to say that he has a sports store, a wife, and two children?”

José Anigo also has another son, Frédéric, employed in the municipal police. Despite facing adversity, José Anigo maintains a lucid perspective, acknowledging the challenges of Marseille, a city that “eats its children.”
